Roan Yellowthorn, Fake Frank, and The Curls

August 17, 2018 @ 9:00 pm

$10

9pm-9:45pm : The Curls are a constantly evolving American art rock band based in Chicago, IL. Formed in 2014 by songwriter Mick Fansler and a group of trusted associates, the project has expanded into the current core lineup of Mick, Jenny Marshall, Anna Holmquist, Carl Swoveland, Will Hulseman and Rami Atassi.

The tight-knit art pop innovators have rapidly evolved since their formation, becoming known for a relentless DIY work ethic, genre-defying songwriting, and large ensemble live performances.

10pm-10:45pm : Eclectic Alternative and Retro-vibe, indie artist Fake Frank has many influences, including Chick Corea, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Mac Demarco.  Accordingly, the music is characterized by complex drum patterns, melodic bass-lines, percussive guitar tones, quirky synth lines, and powerful mid-ranged vocals.  The lyrical content is particularly poignant, tackling subjects such as queer identity, substance abuse, and the current political climate.

Fake Frank was founded by multi-instrumentalist and Brown University student Dan Avedis Masotti in 2016.  Teaming up with Berklee student and Billy Joel Foundation Scholarship recipient Jeremy Kaplan, as well as drummer/percussionist Harrison Kravis, the band released three singles that led to the debut self-titled album in March 2018.  Their music has garnered radio play and positive critical feedback, including receipt of The Deli Magazine’s ‘New England Emerging Artist of the Month’ in March, 2017.  Jazz guitarist Jon Chernack rounds out the four piece lineup.

11pm-til : Roan Yellowthorn front woman Jackie McLean, supported by producer and multi-instrumentalist Shawn Strack, delivers ethereal indie rock songs with a singer/songwriter heart. Listeners find themselves singing-along to the catchy melodies while simultaneously becoming immersed in the story behind each song.

With their arresting sound, innovative collaborative process, and undeniable talent, Roan Yellowthorn is poised to be one of the most compelling acts of their generation. With tendrils in pop, rock, indie, and folk, their music is at once familiar and like no other music today.
