Bear Grass, Sydney Worthley, Caro & Angie
August 23 @ 9:00 pm
Located in Troy, NY, Bear Grass is built around the quirky songs of Katie Hammon. Her sultry pipes leave them devastated, but the band’s blend of folk, rock, and homespun trip-hop soothes their wounds. Hammon’s roots in the pacific northwest shape the character of the music with lyrics often referencing the people and places from her childhood memories. Drawing on influences like Laura Veirs and Dave Bazaan, the music is sometimes subtly dark, but always thoroughly captivating and melodic
Sydney Worthley is a shining young singer/songwriter from New York’s capital region who melds alt-rock, folk, and pop into a sound all her own. Sydney’s debut album, Strong, is a 14-track roller coaster built on strength, courage, and perseverance. From the warm opening guitar riff of title-track “Strong”, to the brooding refrain of “Better Than You”, to the rock anthem “Part of Me”, Strong takes a powerful stance in the face of tremendous loss and heartbreak. We all, at some point, face hardship or feel isolated. Sydney is passionate about sharing her experiences to help others feel connected and understood, and to find the strength to go on.
Caro & Angie is a duo that is inspired by the sweeter things in life. They like long walks on the beach, mountain views, and harmonies that will give you chills. Caro rocks the banjo while Angie jumps between piano and ukulele, forming a sweet mix of soulful folk. Their voices go together like bread and butter with songs that are lighthearted, powerful, and refreshingly real. Caro & Angie share the spotlight and perfectly complement one another on stage with their honeyed harmonies leading the way.
